dapitan plaza

dapitan plaza

The Dapitan Plaza was planned and beautified by Jose Rizal during his exile in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte. He also installed a lighting system out of coconut oil. None of these ingenious lamp posts exists to this day, but the Acacia trees near the present day shrine were said to be planted by Rizal himself.

Because of its historical significance, the Dapitan Plaza was declared as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Institute on March 13, 2002.
